The Empress is my alter-ego. A few years ago I started compiling some work for a volume I wanted to call “The Empress’ Letters” I was reminded of this about a week ago when I went to an Artist’s Way group organized by my friend Troy. I am sure that anyone who has ever fancied themself an artist has heard of Julia’s Cameron’s bible of artistic self-help. Anwyway, one of the exercises is to list all of your unfinished projects. I was startled to see how much i had left undone. ( I also thought about the years I spent in Catholic school reciting the Prayer of Contrition everyday after school: “Most merciful God, we confess we have sinned against Thee, in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and what we have left undone… ” Ok, I know I digress. But, “The Empress’ Letters” is one of those projects I felt strongly about before i stopped really thinking about writing. In some small way this project is a way to sift through the things left undone, a confrontation to the thought, word, and deed that tells me im too busy, not good enough, or that the time for being creative has passed. The Empress is a bad ass bitch…I hope she comes back soon.
